It all begins with an idea….

The Couple's Vision
Designing the wedding flowers for Charlotte and Matt at the Matara Centre was a delightful and creative experience. They envisioned a vibrant color palette of burnt oranges, lush greens, and crisp whites. Their request for a wild, "just-picked" style allowed us to bring a natural, free-spirited essence to the arrangements. It was a beautiful blend of bohemian charm and elegance, perfectly complementing the couple's relaxed and joyful approach to their special day.
Focal Elements
Colour Palette: Burnt oranges, greens, and whites created a rich, warm atmosphere.
Style: A wild, organic look with loose, flowing arrangements that appeared freshly gathered from nature.
Key Flowers: Featuring a stunning combination of seasonal blooms such as scented freesia, daisies, garden roses, eucalyptus, and ferns.
Textures: The arrangements incorporated a variety of greenery to add depth and dimension, with cascading foliage giving a whimsical, untamed feel.
Charlotte and Matt chose to exchange their vows outdoors by the serene carp pond, set within the tranquil grounds of the Matara Centre. This stunning natural backdrop provided the perfect setting for their intimate ceremony. At Steam and Petals, we love to repurpose floral elements throughout the day, adding continuity to the design. For the ceremony, we featured our signature wooden log arrangement at the feet of the bride and groom, creating a rustic focal point. To further frame the space, we arranged an eclectic mix of glass bottles filled with hand-picked blooms, delicately surrounding the area where they exchanged their vows.
The Ceremony
The Wedding Breakfast
For the wedding breakfast, Charlotte and Matt opted for long trestle tables, a choice that beautifully complemented the spacious room. To enhance the look, we crafted a stunning floral runway down the center of the tables. This design incorporated a mix of rustic wooden root pieces, delicate glass bottles, and elegant gold candlestick holders with burnt orange candles to tie together the warm, inviting color palette.
On the top table, we echoed this design with an added flourish—extra cascading foliage flowing gracefully behind the couple, intertwined with the soft lighting, creating a magical backdrop for their celebration.
Bridal Flowers
With the bridesmaids dressed in striking burnt orange, Charlotte wanted their bouquets to seamlessly complement the color scheme. We carried the wild, "just-picked" theme into the bridal party arrangements, ensuring they reflected the relaxed and free-spirited vibe of the day. Each bridesmaid carried a textured posy, featuring a variety of seasonal blooms and greenery. The bouquets echoed the natural, untamed aesthetic, with rich orange hues and lush foliage tying everything together beautifully.
One of the most captivating elements of Charlotte and Matt’s wedding at the Matara Centre was the stunning glass Hilarium, illuminated by draped fairy lights. We elevated this enchanting space by suspending one of our signature contorted hazel rings, adorned with a mix of vibrant green foliage and delicate LED microlights. As evening fell, the twinkling lights created a magical atmosphere, adding a whimsical touch to the already dreamy setting.
Standout Feature
Another thoughtful detail was the use of potted mini succulents wrapped in rustic hessian as wedding favors for each guest. This personal touch allowed every attendee to take home a living piece of the day—something they could nurture and enjoy for years to come, a beautiful reminder of the celebration.
